Convergence Exhibition
October 19, 21, 2023 | A-B Gallery, Camberwell College of Art
The following is an excerpt from Carmen Van Huisstede's writing on how and why Convergence came to happen:
'Convergence' is an exhibition of work by women artists across the Camberwell MA Fine Art pathways and from a wide array of backgrounds and artistic practices. The core concept of the exhibition is to juxtapose the perspectives and cultural influences that each artist brings and to celebrate the connections and friendships that evolved over the past year.
Driven by the dynamic exchange of ideas during lunch and inspired by the collaborative synergy between Eleanor Street and Joy Stokes’s work for the MA Camberwell Summer Show, the 'Convergence' exhibition of artworks emerged. The exhibition, organised and curated by Carmen Van Huisstede and Eleanor Street, celebrates women’s voices and their mutual support within the realm of art.
The show featured 6 female artists graduating from the Camberwell Fine Arts MA this year:
Eleanor Street
Carmen Van Huisstede
Sofia Alrich Veytia
Alexandra Costea
Te Palandjian
Jane Hughes
Yuhuan Song
I had agreed to Convergence before I knew I would be sick with Covid-19 for the entire time it was organized. While I tried my best to remain involved in the logistics prior to the exhibit, Convergence was the first time in this past year where I have really trusted in my peers and taken the time that I needed to rest. In keeping with the supportive impetus of the show, I felt incredibly supported by the other female artists, especially Eleanor and Carmen. They helped install everyone's work, publicized the show to the public, hired a photographer, and organized drinks so that my only job was to supply and hang my work. In the future, I hope to repay the favor.
